The Queen’s Birthday – Royal Gun Salute

The Queen’s Birthday – Royal Gun Salute

On the 21st April 2019, the Queen celebrates her 93rd birthday; and, as part of the celebrations, there will be a Gun Salute on the Parade Ground in Hyde Park at midday on Monday 22nd April, fired by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

Although the typical gun salute is 21-round, there will be 41 blasts of the canons in Hyde Park because, like Green Park, it is a Royal Park, and so an extra 20-rounds are added. Usually, the blasts would take place on the Queen’s actual birthday; but because it falls on a Sunday, the Salute will take place on the following day instead.

It is a spectacular ceremony not to be missed: personnel from the King’s Troop will be dressed to the nines in full military attire, and even the horses will have undergone hours of grooming and scrubbing to look prepared and polished for the event.

The Gun Salute is a free event and can become very crowded, so you’re best to arrive early. Why not stay with us at the Mercure London Hyde Park to ensure a perfect view?
